Herman Miller SAYL chair
The line of SAYL chairs for Herman Miller is a new reference point for the world leader in ergonomic task chairs: lighter, ergonomic, technologically advanced, and also the lowest-cost task chair produced by the eponymous furniture brand. The SAYL chair is inspired by the principles of suspension bridges. By rethinking every part of the chair, we were able to innovate the back structure and offer the first frameless suspension system. We sought to remove anything unnecessary while still delivering a high level of performance and aesthetics. We call the resulting products eco-dematerialised™ and attainable: lower carbon footprint (30% lighter) and lower retail cost thanks to materials and assembly savings. Throughout the 3 year design and innovation process, the fuseproject team discovered a series of competitively critical intellectual property, refined the designs to the highest detail, conceived of the marketing campaign, naming, advertising, promotional and exhibit materials.
