Cionic Neural Sleeve

The Cionic Neural Sleeve is a first-of-its-kind healthcare product at the intersection of design, data, and the human body created to restore and improve mobility.

The Neural Sleeve’s groundbreaking innovation serves those living with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, stroke recovery, and other neuromuscular diagnoses. The technology leverages personalized algorithms to analyze an individual’s gait pattern and deliver functional electrical stimulation (FES) to activate the correct muscles and support gait in real-time. Software-controlled currents utilize electrodes placed inside the sleeve to activate muscles – improving ease of walking, increasing strength and range of motion, facilitating muscle re-learning, and elevating comfort overall.

fuseproject’s sleeve design for the bionic startup, CIONIC, empowers users with a new freedom of movement and motion rehabilitation–allowing for more fully engaged and independent lives. The outcome is a comprehensive and customizable solution that reveals the future of broader, more scalable mobility solutions.

Ease of use is critical for people with limited mobility: The donning and doffing process, designed around the technical requirements, focused on positioning and placement to translate across multiple user groups. Thoughtful consideration of the technical constraints of the wirebus, sensors, and electrodes maximized correct placement across different body types. This is particularly pertinent to stroke survivors, or other users that have limited mobility on one side of their bodies, as the opposing (more mobile) side must do all the work. More than 50 prototypes were developed with the user's experience in mind.

Lightweight, breathable fabric in beautiful colorways celebrate the Cionic Neural Sleeve as something to be proud of. The sleeve design and material choice celebrate recovery, progress, and the possibility of a better quality of life.
