August
Fuseproject co-founded August in partnership with Jason Johnson, a startup focused on creating seamless, secure home access through Bluetooth technology. Together, we built the August product experience and brand from the ground up, designing everything from the product and user interface to packaging, website & app experience, and go-to-market strategy. Our involvement even extended into retail fixtures, ensuring a cohesive brand experience at every touchpoint.
The debut product set new standards for quality and security in smart locks, quickly gaining consumer trust. We crafted a small, iconic design using machined aluminum, housing high-performance internals that power the lock’s motors, battery systems, lights, and visual indicators. Over the years, Fuseproject supported August’s growth, designing seven innovative products, including keypads, three different door locks, a camera, and Linus—a universal code adaptable to various lock types worldwide.
August’s journey, from startup to its acquisition by Yale, highlights Fuseproject’s comprehensive design approach, which helped transform home access technology into a trusted, user-centered experience. Through thoughtful design and technology integration, we redefined how consumers engage with smart locks, blending ease of use with robust security and aesthetics.
