Celebrating a history of firsts 
Peaks is a modular seating system designed by Yves Behar in collaboration with Moooi and introduced at Milan Design Week 2024. Inspired by Behar’s Swiss upbringing and the peaks and valleys of the Alpine landscape, the design transforms the traditional sofa into a flexible social terrain that supports gathering, lounging, play and shared experience.
Conventional sofas prioritize static comfort over human interaction. Peaks responds to contemporary living by offering a cohesive system that shifts easily between solitary relaxation and communal use without loose cushions or complex reassembly. Its triangular modules rotate to create backrests, armrests and platforms, allowing the seating to adapt intuitively to different activities and group sizes.
The system replaces rectilinear form with a sculptural topography of hinged foam elements. Concealed zippers and textile hinges keep the composition unified while enabling fast reconfiguration by a single person. Dual density foam balances structure and softness across a range of postures, while the low profile encourages informal, close proximity that feels relaxed and inviting.
Presented at Salone del Mobile, Peaks resonated with a renewed interest in conversation pits and convivial, low seating environments. Press and visitors recognized it as an expression of post-pandemic priorities centered on adaptability, intimacy and shared presence.
Peaks will soon be commercially available through Moooi, with production plans that include multiple sizes, fabric programs and preconfigured layouts for residential and hospitality settings.
Peaks reframes seating as a dynamic social instrument rather than a static object. By merging expressive form with everyday usability, it reflects a new vision of the home as a space that supports both solitude and togetherness with equal ease.
