AES

Maximo is the first AI-enabled robot that installs solar panels in half the time and at half the cost.

Our long-term partnership with AES, a leader in renewable energy, began with a clear challenge: addressing labor shortages and high costs in the solar industry. AES sought a groundbreaking solution to improve efficiency, safety, and scalability. Fuseproject was tasked with designing Maximo, an advanced robotic system tailored to meet these needs.

While Fuseproject has a history of designing companion robots, Maximo demanded a distinct approach for its demanding fieldwork. We collaborated closely with AES engineers, construction managers, and safety experts to optimize Maximo’s design for real-world applications.

Maximo’s design merges sophistication with usability. Key innovations include a dynamic cradle for efficient panel replenishment, an LED band for clear safety communication, and a streamlined layout that fosters seamless interactions with installation teams. Beyond functionality, Maximo embodies approachability, making it a trusted “friend in the field.”

By July 2024, Maximo had installed nearly 10 megawatts of solar panels, powering 2,000 homes and solidifying AES’s position as a leader in innovation and sustainability. Maximo is not just a robotic achievement—it’s a testament to the transformative power of design and engineering in solving global challenges.
