In a recent Fast Company article, Adele Peters explores the Telo MT1, an electric mini-truck designed to be as compact as a Mini Cooper yet capable of hauling just as much as a full-size pickup. Priced at $41,250, it offers an affordable and practical alternative to oversized gas-guzzling trucks, marking a significant shift in EV design and functionality.

With a design by Yves Behar’s Fuseproject, the Telo MT1 features a sporty and approachable look, standing in contrast to the hulking grilles of traditional trucks. Its efficient use of space allows for a five-foot truck bed, and a sliding cab gate expands storage to fit 4-by-8 plywood while maintaining a smaller overall footprint—ideal for city drivers, weekend adventurers, and even ranchers.

The truck’s electric platform eliminates wasted space, housing a single motor with a 260-mile range and a 30-minute charge time. A dual-motor, 500-horsepower version with four-wheel drive and 350 miles of range is also available. Thanks to its lightweight and aerodynamic design, the Telo requires a smaller battery than most electric trucks, reducing weight and improving efficiency.

Made in Southern California, the Telo qualifies for federal EV tax credits and offers lower long-term costs compared to traditional gas trucks. Preorders are now open for $152 (a nod to the truck’s 152-inch length), with deliveries expected by late 2025.
