The ElliQ eldercare robot gets a hardware upgrade

News

In a recent TechCrunch article, Brian Heater explores the latest evolution of ElliQ 3, the AI-powered companion robot developed by Intuition Robotics in collaboration with Yves Béhar’s Fuseproject. Originally launched in March 2023, ElliQ has gained traction through assisted care partnerships, and a new $25 million investment round, led by Toyota’s Woven Capital, has helped drive its latest advancements.

The new ElliQ 3 features a more compact and lightweight design, now one-third smaller and 1.3 pounds lighter than its predecessor. Improved hardware updates, including an upgraded MediaTek octa-core processor and expanded memory, enhance performance and user experience. These refinements not only make the device easier to use but also support scalability in manufacturing, making it more accessible to a broader audience.

One of the most significant upgrades is ElliQ 3’s integration of generative AI, enabling more natural and open-ended conversations. By leveraging large language models (LLMs), the robot can now engage in discussions on virtually unlimited topics, offering users a more engaging and dynamic experience. Beyond conversations, ElliQ can also co-create artwork and poetry, promoting cognitive wellness and creativity. Users can then share these creations with loved ones or within the ElliQ community, helping to reduce loneliness and enhance social connectivity.

As Intuition Robotics continues to push the boundaries of AI-driven eldercare, ElliQ 3 represents a major step forward in enhancing companionship and well-being for older adults.
