Swarovski Vision

fuseproject's collaboration with Swarovski, focused around challenging the traditional notion of a chandelier. Most chandeliers are beautiful objects that the viewer gazes upon; fuseproject designed light sculptures that turn the viewer into a participant, inviting the viewer to interact with the object.

Swarovski challenged us to "reinvent" the chandelier for its "Crystal Palace" collection at Art Basel Miami, the pre-eminent bi-annual art-world gathering. We wanted to deconstruct what a chandelier is, and explore what it could be. Rather than just a static, traditional object to be viewed, we created Morpheus, a chandelier that changes its form, becoming animated through interaction and a digital interface. Dazzling, fluid light-shaped sculptures; Morpheus, Voyage & Nest. With Morpheus, rather than just a static, traditional object to be viewed, we created a chandelier that changes its form, becoming animated through interaction and a digital interface. Voyage is made up of over 50,000 Swarovski crystals that, combined with motion sensing LED lights, produce a motion effect that ebbs and flows, creating a form that represents a perpetual journey, a continual coming and going. NEST is built in the organic shape of a nest that weds traditional crystal material with a 21st century lighting technology. The result is a new direction for the Swarovski brand, which has decided to develop the original NEST concept into a full-fledged product offering: a first for the century old largest Crystal manufacturer in the world.
